The answer we developed throughout the discussion is that it should be long enough to communicate the ideas. However, longer does not always mean better or clearer. In addition the length should be an appropriate representation of the usual artefact within my practice. Adesola made a good example of a performance when the audience claps at the end not because it was good but because it finally finished.
Thinking about the length of my artefact also made me think about the way I communicate my findings within an essay. I always find myself going over the word limit and then struggling to cut things out.
As a result of this conversation I feel that I need to revisit my essay and check the clarity of my writing .
Hi Kristine, my dance piece is 1 minute 30 secs, I felt this was a significant amount of time to represent my journey through researching into my inquiry. I also understand how easy it is to go over the word count in the essays, I do this every time. I think it's because we want to elaborate and explain exactly how we came to a particular understanding etc. I just tend to read back through my work and highlight where I talk about the same thing or repeat anything, then I remove anything that's not needed. Hope this helped or made you feel like you're not alone in doing this. Sian
