Whilst studying Popping and Locking genres, Fred travelled the world learning from the creators of the styles. The above interview with Don "Campbellock" Campbell demonstrates his vision of dance which is also promoted by Fred to his students.
"Once you learn the basics-you want to put yourself into it"(Campbell, D.,2015)
This is what made me fell in love with street dance, the fact that you can be yourself. Today, I try to pass this idea to my students-I can give you the steps, but you got to make them your own. This approach reflects ideas described in cognitivism teaching and learning theory.

Really enjoyed reading this post about your influences, it really shows how much the people that teach us can have an impact on our lives and impact how we then go onto teach. Do you have any influencers within your industry?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Sam. I also find Jonzi D very influential. He promotes the true meaning of hip hop, which is far deeper than commercialised interpretation on TV. I use hip hop theatre within my practice to teach students about alternative ways of expression and also to demonstrate that hip hop can be classed as high art as well. Who is influencing your practice?
DeleteI too like you would say a lot of my influence has come from my College teacher who taught me the technique of jazz but also taught me the strength, perseverance and art of it too. In the industry I would have to mention Charlie Stemp, a performer who at the age of 22 with just 2 professional credits to his name played the lead in Half a Sixpence in London and has since been catapulted to Broadway because of his talents. Its refreshing to see new young performers taking leads instead of celebrities and well known stars that are just there to pull in an audience!
